November 2011. She was a high school teacher, and I was an Air Force officer. I needed an audience to propose to my girlfriend (ok, I wanted an audience, I didn't need one). So I called her principal for some advice. She said, "well, the state championship basketball game will be televised here at school on Friday (it was Tuesday), there will probably be around 1500 people in the gym." Holy SH%$T, I was scared, but it was GAME TIME, so I said.... "ok, that'll work!!"
I hadn't been to a single basketball game at her school all year, so it took some convincing to get her to come to the game on a Friday night after school (I may or may not have brought some "energy juice" to calm my nerves). The principal and I worked out a game where they "randomly" selected people from the crowd at halftime. They would ask the selected participants questions, if the answer to the question applied to you, step forward, if the answer didn't apply to you, step back. Simple. I had my outfit all together, which she made me change because I wasn't wearing a school t-shirt (sigh). I brought all my boys to document the moment. It was time.
Well, she "randomly" won, but then she had to answer one more question to "win the grand prize...."
